"Honey you need to find a hobby!" - Crystal to Mendy in May 2003
Crystal has always been incredibly talented and had been creating beaded jewelry for quite some time before glass entered her life.
One fateful day in March of 2003, Mendy took a day off from work to spend with Crystal. The museum they wanted to visit, the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas campus, was closed for renovations and they decided to visit the Austin Renaissance Market just up the street from the museum. As we looked at the different vendors, one mentioned that he really liked the necklace Crystal was wearing and that she should apply for a permit to sell.
The original business was called "Necks To Me" and started out with Crystal creating wire-wrap strung-bead jewelry. Though her creations were very unique and had started attracting attention at the market, Crystal wanted to attract a broader audience and push herself artistically in a very different direction.
In May 2003, Crystal, Mendy and Jacob went to the Old Pecan Street Festival and went into a booth selling fused glass art and jewelry that also offered classes. Mendy felt inspired and decided that he could finally explore his lifelong fascination with art glass. Coincidentally, at that same time Crystal uttered the fateful words that would change both of their lives, "Honey you need to find a hobby!" In June, Mendy took the beginning fused glass class followed by Crystal in August. Those first classes opened a world of breathtaking possibilities of fused glass and dichroic glass art and jewelry.
Who needs a hobby, when a business is so much better! In September 2003, Crystal began incorporating her original fused glass designs into her jewelry with phenomenal response. In a matter of weeks, her sales at the Renaissance Market grew exponentially and what started out as a business occupying one room in their house quickly grew to overtake the entire garage, study and back bedroom. The business grew and by January 2005, owners Mendy and Crystal Ouzillou wanted to reflect a different image.
The new name needed to reflect beauty, class, style and a sense of mystery. The name "Trezora" came after a long, arduous process but instantly felt right. Trezora is derived from the French word for treasure, tresor, and ties in Mendy’s French heritage. Trezora was born on February 2005 and the new website was launched August 2005.
In November 2004, Crystal realized that the Renaissance Market was no longer the right venue. She needed to participate in bigger shows with a broader customer base to meet her business goals. She began attending shows throughout Texas, New Mexico and California and developing a presence in gift stores as far away as Seattle, Washington and Lincoln, Nebraska. By the end of 2005, Trezora had achieved a deep customer database of over 3000 customers and sold glass jewelry to well over 4000 customers.
In May 2006, Trezora Glass moved from Austin, Texas to Seattle, Washington. We then moved to Campbell, California (south of San Jose) in October 2008.
